Brick Maxwell lost a good friend when squadron mate Raz Rasmussen was shot down in the first Gulf War. Though Raz's body was never recovered, he was declared KIA and soon forgotten. Years later, when Raz's now-remarried wife receives a call claiming he is alive, she frantically asks Maxwell to investigate. At first, Maxwell is ignored by the CIA -- until his old enemy, Jamal Al-Fasr, is captured on the Iraq-Iran border and offers to trade himself for an American POW. Maxwell attends the exchange, in case the POW turns out to be Raz. But the CIA is working its own shady agenda -- and a shocking betrayal will place Maxwell right in the kill zone....

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT
SHADOWS OF WAR

"The flying scenes are terrific. The author seems to have the uncanny ability to take the world's latest problem region and put Maxwell within its context for another ride into near reality."
-- Flight Journal, June 2005

"There is something for everyone here -- a sputtering romance, agents and double agents together with modern combat on air, land, and sea. This is a fast, evocative story with a ring of authenticity and the potential for satisfying every reader of military adventure."
-- The Hook, Winter 2004

"Gandt is a master of the short sentence, and every word is a dart. There is no fat. The result is a lean, mean, rapid-fire delivery of a well-devised tale that holds attention from beginning to end. The story lines are a blend of actual fact, geography, history, and Gandt's imagination and superb creativity."
-- Rear Admiral Jeremy Taylor, USN, The Skyhawk Association Quarterly

"Gandt writes with the deft precision of a master story-teller who knows his subject as well as his craft. He possesses that rare gift of being able to lure the reader from paragraph to paragraph, page to page, chapter to chapter, smoothly and with a finesse that more pedestrian writers only dream of."
-- Pacific Flyer, Dec. 2004

I'm just about to finish reading Shadows of War. I'm going to start Killing Sky right after it. I have read all of your maxwell books previously. While I was reading Shadows, I was wondering if you ever thought of maybe promoting one of your stories for the big screen. Because as most of the other's posted here would agree stories like this could be pretty big in the movie industry. Anyway just a thought.

Are you planing on continuing the maxwell series past Killing Sky?

Enjoy your books,

I just read Shadows of War and was trying to find out if it was one of a series or just a stand alone novel. I found my answer and the book was great. I will soon read another.

Once again, I'm so excited for this next book to come out. I'm so impressed with the way you are able to find the perfect mix of realism and technical jargon and combine it with realistic scenarios and entertaining plots. I was able to follow and enjoy your books as someone who had never flown an airplane before, and I'm still able to do so after 500 hours in an eagle. I always find myself reading your novels in one sitting. Can't wait!!!

All of the books I have read by you are amazing. As other posts said, you are equal to Clancy and many other military fiction writers. You got me back into my love for flying and military planes. Thanks and I will be reading the new book coming out soon. Keep 'em comin'!!

Hi Mr Gandt,
Previously (and perennially) a Clancy fan, I was surprised and delighted that you are at least his match. Congratulations.
I'm English, living in U.S. now, and would love to read your books for Audio taped versions if the opportunity arise.
Sincerely and gratefully yours

I love all your books and can't wait for the next one to come out.
