Gandt's fifth novel in his naval aviation series, The Killing Sky, is set in the troubled country of Israel, where he traveled extensively in 2004 doing research for the book.

The story opens with an American-Israeli military exercise that goes badly wrong when Cmdr. Brick Maxwell's wingman is shot down and taken prisoner by a group of Palestinian insurgents. Negotiating the pilot's release is the President's shadowy, power-hungry special envoy, Rick Solares. Though the pilot is freed, Maxwell discovers there is more to the arrangement than anyone suspects. When the woman he loves falls victim to the terrorists, his devotion to duty dissolves into a desire for vengeance.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT
THE KILLING SKY

"I had the good fortune to grow up reading and loving historical fiction.  Bob Gandt's modern historical fiction and the adventures of his hero, Brick Maxwell, ring as true as any historical fiction I have ever read - from sail to jets.  As a matter of fact, they not only fit the category, but often foreshadow things to come."
-- John Tegler, Host of the syndicated talk show, Capital Conversation

"Gandt has branched into fiction, creating a character named Brick Maxwell, a really Sierra Hotel fighter pilot accepted into the astronaut corps but who resigned from NASA after co-astronaut wife was killed in training and he returned to the Navy. This time he's not only fighting Muslim insurgents but a slime ball from Washington, who has aspirations of power and doesn't care who gets in the way even if it's American journalists (particularly Maxwell's fiancee). Big mistake.

"Gandt ensures that it all makes sense and each page draws you inexorably toward the next."
-- Pacific Flyer, Dec. 2005

"I received The Killing Sky as a gift and I must say that the book captivated me. The action is intense, and the characters well defined. The aerial descriptions are superb, and the "ground action" is very exciting as well. Upon completion of this book, I immediately read the remaining four books in the series. I understand a new installment is due out in the fall and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival. Bob Gandt is a wonderful writer with a good personal background of his subject matter. I highly recommend his books."
-- Larry Deckelman (St. Louis, MO) Amazon.com reviewer

"The Killing Sky is the 5th book in the Brick Maxwell series and it is as good if not better than the previous four. Just like the other Gandt novels in this series it took me one weekend to read as I couldn't put it down. It is great for couples since it appeals to both men and women. It has everything from the fast paced excitement of being in the cockpit of an F/A-18 Super Hornet to romance. I would best describe this book as Tom Clancy meets Top Gun which is a great combination. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an entertaining story!"
Erin Wright "Navy Wife" (Virginia Beach, VA) Amazon.com reviewer

"Robert Gandt's novels get better with each new release! This tops all previous... and they've all been incredibly good. The technical accuracy of the books and Robert's Naval Aviation background make this series particularly appealing to ex-military aviators and non-aviators alike. The plot is captivating enough, however, that readers with no military background will still be held spellbound... Great book, can't wait for the next in the series!"
-- James D. Compton "Former Navy pilot and retired airline pilot" (Griffin, GA USA) Amazon.com reviewer

Just finished the last of the Brick Maxwell series, and I must say, you do know how to tell a story. I was given The Killing Sky as a gift and upon reading it, I immediately purchased the others. I have always loved aviation and got my Private Pilot license at age 50. Please keep the books coming...I have a new favorite author!!!

Best regards,
Larry

I really enjoyed the Killing Sky and would love for my husband to "read" some of Robert Gandt's books on audio. He is blind and loves to read books such as C Cussler writes and really enjoys anything concerning airplanes. Can you help me.

Bob---at the suggestion of Chuck Spencer I just concluded reading Killing Sky---a supurb tale--lots of fun. Unfortunately in today's news there is the sad irony with Claire of the attack in Iraq injuring Bob Woodward of ABC news....
Great fun to see LT Bud Spencer and Lt Hunter Weldon mentioned!
Greetings to Anne and condolences to Jana.

Hi again,
To the new readers start looking for the old books which are out of print- before you will not be able to find them at a reasonable price ! I have read all of the Gandt books, & found Killing Sky to be as good/ better than the rest.
My problem is that you are the BEST THERE IS IN MILITARY aviation/action books- MUCH BETTER than your piers, which have also praised your work !!!

I wanted to start Killing Sky assoon as soon as I got it- but wanted to save it- cause Iknew that there wouldn't be another one for a while- darm!!!!!!!!!,.The first setting I couldn't put it down for 126 pages !! Bob....just finished your latest non-fiction book. Couldn't put it down, a real page turner just like the rest. Then I awoke from the dream!

C'mon Bob---you are hands down the best non-fiction aviation writer around (or any subject for that matter). Your mix of research, history and telling the story with humor is what has kept me hooked. But I can only re-read my treasured and autographed collection so many times. I just know there is a subject out there you have been waiting to disect and write about for us. Write a book about SAC. Maybe Kelley Johnson, heck I don't care of you write a primer about arranging dried flowers; just give us some of that great Gandt non-fiction!! Please?
Yours faithfully...(were you at Reno this year....didn't see you)
